Explanation of the BB-NET

BB-NET is a network of consultants to the pharmaceutical industry, that provides the resources needed for continuous learning while working independently. The Network is organized in 'Centers of Excellence' (called "CofE") and 'Local Chapters', that allow for contacts within the respective specialty as well as in their own region.

Why is the network important ?

The world is moving faster and faster. By now also classical industries need to adapt to new working models to be able to cope with the pace. Changes are to enable more flexibility for companies, which they can obtain by outsourcing suitable activities, for example. In this context new models, up to the model of a 'virtual company', are being discussed. But all this is only possible with an external workforce that maintains a high level of understanding.

Currently only consultants within large consultancies have access to continuous learning. Also these agencies hire new personnel permanently. These new hires represent an influx of new ideas and knowledge. The best consultancies here have a strong link to an established university, potentially are part of it. In this way they maintain a high level of understanding of what is the state of the art within their field.

Independent consultants on the other hand, coming out of consultancies as well as out of the industry, have a wealth of expertise and experience when they come out of employment. However over time independent consultants lose expertise, especially if they work more on stand-alone projects. Most of the time they do not have the resources for training nor do they take the time while being inbetween projects.

BB-Net is to help consultants to overcome all of the hurdles mentioned before:

1. Be in contact with other consultants to share experience and learn from one another
2. Conduct open projects together and share resources to stay at a competitive level

What are CofEs and Chapters?

CofE - Centers of Excellence

"CofE" stands for 'Center of Excellence' and within CofEs consultants focus on and continuously develop their specific expertise. For example these are strategic marketing, product valuations or clinical strategy. Every CofE is chaired by one consultant to manage, potentially drive, the activities within the group. The level of activities within the CofE are set by the members of the group and determine the quality of the CofE as a point to share best practice, to learn more about recent trends and to conduct show cases you can use for your own promotion. Local Chapters

Within "Local Chapters" consultants for the same geography are organized, so 'your' local chapter is made up of the consultans within your proximity, so that you can have face to face meetings, share best preactices on business maters and experience accross areas of specialization. Local chapters are also to foster the collaboration between consultants for larger projects. Knowing each other personally provides everyone with a better understanding of what others are capable of and on when a collaboration does make sense.
